An apparatus worn over the mouth and nose or entire face to prevent the inhalation of dust, smoke, or other noxious substances.
OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 respiratory protection standard states the proper use of respirators to protect employees from breathing contaminated and/or oxygen-deficient air when effective engineering controls are not feasible, or while they are being instituted. OSHA currently has newly mandated regulations that also require the use of respirators.
OSHA's medical clearance is a questionnaire about your medical history. This is signed by a physician or other licensed health care professional! Everyone needs to be cleared medically before wearing a respirator to make sure you are healthy enough to wear them for any period of time!
A respirator fit test confirms whether a respirator properly fits the face of the person wearing it.
Fit testing is performed to make sure that the respirator you are wearing properly fits you and protects you from the things outside of it!
Fit testing is performed Annually, because it is make and model specific for the respirator that you are fit tested in if you switch respirators at any time you are to be fit tested in the specific one!
